On the Paths of Coexistence: Tours and Events in the Prespa National Park Area

The thematic “Path for Coexistence,” created in the Prespa National Park area as part of the European LIFE ARCPROM project, was presented on the morning of Saturday, May 17, 2025, with the participation of dozens of educators from all levels of education across Western Macedonia.

This trail was established through a collaboration between the environmental organization “Callisto” and the Management Unit of Prespa National Park & Protected Areas of Western Macedonia under the Hellenic Organization for Nature Conservation (NECCA), as part of the European LIFE ARCPROM project. The trail begins at the settlement of Oxya and ends at the settlement of Mikrolimni. Along the route, discreet informational signs have been placed. The four themes of the trail are: “The Land and Its People”, “The Bear Among Forests and Humans”, “The Lakes of Prespa”, “Three Countries, Two Lakes, One Future”.

In total, four trails have been created in Greece and Italy. These accessible routes pass through areas of high natural beauty inhabited by bears and are suitable for various interest groups: students, adults, visitors, educators, or professionals in other fields.

Following the walk along the “Bear Trail,” an event was held to present the LIFE ARCPROM project and the educational materials developed as part of the project. The event took place at the OFYPEKA Information Center in Pyli and included a presentation of the activities of the Management Unit of Prespa National Park & Protected Areas of Western Macedonia under NECCA.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all participants who contributed to the success of these events. The coexistence of humans and wildlife is achievable through awareness, education, and collaboration.
